چکیده

1 of 2 DESCRIPTION An 85-year-old lady returned to the urology clinic for review 10 months postcystoscopically guided proximal urethral Zuidex injection for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. Zuidex is a combination of dextranomer and hyaluronic acid. It is used as a minimally invasive alternative to surgical stress urinary incontinence procedures. She had urinary urgency and a tenderness in the vaginal region. Clinical inspection revealed a periurethral erythematous, warm, tender swelling; causing apparent outlet obstruction ( fi gure 1 ). A transvaginal puncture was performed under aseptic technique ( fi gure 2 ). Five millilitre of sterile pus was withdrawn. The procedure was well tolerated. The pseudoabscess did not recur. Postprocedure however, the stress urinary incontinence deteriorated. The reported incidence of pseudoabscess formation following Zuidex injection varies from 10 1 to 15%. 2 It does not appear to be related to the volume of Zuidex injected. They can present up to 13 months postinjection. 1 Periurethral pseudoabscesses very rarely resolve spontaneously and often require multiple operative interventions. Images in...

INTRODUCTION There are a myriad of treatment options available for patients suffering with the increasingly prevalent condition of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The minimally invasive nature of periurethral bulking agents makes them an attractive proposition in the correctly selected patient. Injection devices for bulking agents in uro-gynaecology.

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) affects a large proportion of middle-aged and elderly women. When all conservative means are ineffective, a surgical treatment including retropubic suspension, pubovaginal and tension-free slings, is contemplated. Intra-urethral injections with bulking agents have been used as an alternative to the mentioned surgical procedures with alternate results. Many uret...

Submucosal Bladder Neck Injections for Management of Stress Urinary Incontinence

Submucosal deposition of bulking agents is increasingly used for the treatment of intrinsic stress urinary incontinence both in male and female patients. Bulking agents should ideally be nonimmunogenic, biocompatible, non-migratory, injectable, cause a minimal inflammatory reaction, retain the submucosal bulging effect, and reasonably cheap. None of the agents available to date fully meets thes...

Clinical Note Evaluation of the Female Urethra With Intraurethral Magnetic Resonance Imaging

The purpose of this study was to demonstrate feasibility of intraurethral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for in vivo assessment of the female urethra and to determine the anatomy of the urethra and periurethral attachments as depicted using an endourethral MR coil. Twenty-three continent volunteers were studied with a 14F endourethral MR coil. Intraurethral MRI allowed detailed visualization ...
